What if in addition to the veins of ore we also had different blocks with varying concentrations of ore?
Like in each vein there are some blocks of ore that would result in an output of 2 ingots of the metal or gem after all the processing. There would be a visual difference so that players could maybe practice a bit of efficiency when people are mining underground.

I like the idea of having different purities of ores.

So how would that visual difference be like?

The visual difference would maybe be the density of ore on the block, like for a high density iron ore block you just add more brown dots, and for less density you just add less dots. Just an example

I'd rather have the processing to give random amount of "ore / ore dust / unprocessed ore" and the ore drop will stay the same

You'd still get one ore chunk just after all the processing instead of getting one bar you get like 2.

Just a note, to make it a little more fun/varying for the 'ore processors' why not have slightly different variations of ore ( dense iron ore, fragile iron ore, brittle iron ore, etc. ) that require differing techniques to most effectively extract ingots. All methods should extract at least one ingot, but for the careful processor who experiments different ordering of steps and machines used for each ore class, huge rewards. Make the ore processing kind of like a mini game.
